Developments in the field of Auditing have really taken off in recent years. There is a growing need for proper management and the assurance that that management is actually good. Increasing numbers of organisations are starting to realise that an internal audit can be an important tool in this.

Not only are the ranks of auditors swelling, but the auditors also inspect increasing numbers of different things. What started as an assessment of financial processes has developed into a full position that investigates the quality of management control in the fullest sense. The assessment of organisational cultures and the management of major projects are some examples of such new focal areas. We are very much in favour of these developments, as we believe they will greatly contribute to the added value of audits.

We at ACS are thoroughly convinced of the added value of auditing. However, we are also convinced of the fact that it takes a real effort to actually realise that added value. It never just happens. An auditor can only really help management if the auditor can think along and provide input from a management perspective. Audits have to deal with the issues that managers consider actually important. Otherwise, the results will be of little use. This is why relevance and improvement-orientation are two of our most important concepts. In addition, the manager must naturally be able to count on the fact that the audit is conducted properly. Auditing means research, and in order to do proper research a number of clear-cut rules have to be respected. Performing research is a profession in itself. A profession that we believe we know very well.
